rey.

a dark, alternate universe portrayal of the scavenger from jakku.
a broken girl who has lost all hope, and given into hateful urges.
currently serving under the supreme leader's first order.

what happened to you?

in this au, events diverge from canon in the battle between rey and kylo ren on the crumbling starkiller base.
before this, rey's history aligns with the film's depiction.

during rey and kylo's fight, she pauses, closing her eyes to attempt to connect to the force for the first time. this crucial moment is the basis for the entire alternate universe.

rey does not succeed. immediately upon letting her guard down, kylo ren strikes.

rey suffers a non-fatal but debilitating wound to her face and neck; the same one she would have given kylo. instead, it is her who will bear the scar.

the girl, in the wake of this blunder, feels foolish and more alone than ever. she already feels responsible for han's death. now, finn fought, and was hurt, for nothing.

in this moment, rey truly believes she is a nobody, or worse. she is prepared to die at ren's hand.

but rey receives an offer instead of death. kylo says she can be taught. though she no longer believes in her own abilities, the man who struck her down seems to feel contrarily.

confused, torn, and entirely without a sense of identity, rey accepts. she tells herself it's the only option, that she'd be killed if she refused. deep down, she doesn't know if this is true; but rey commits to the dark side, even if it is out of a hatred for her past, and herself.

upon boarding the supremacy, snoke orders the pair to appear before him. he is furious at kylo for thinking rey could be trusted, and a scenario much like the existing throne room scene plays out.

kylo ren claims the title of supreme leader. with this, rey realizes her decision is not one that she can ever back out of. she completely loses hope and accepts her life as kylo's right hand, though she feels little more than a glorified grunt.

her first task is to construct a lightsaber of her own, double-bladed with red kyber. however, rey gains no official title or rank within the first order, and exists outside of the order's system of operation. her presence is simply known and accepted out of fear of the supreme leader's wrath.

rey has yet to receive proper training. though more advanced than a typical padawan or apprentice, rey has had no master. lack of proper authority now, just like in every other time of her life, is a major factor in rey's constant inner turmoil.

currently serving the order as best she can, rey putters about aimlessly, with no real moral code of her own.

who are you now?

( basic personality. )

the most important change within rey lies in her ability to be honest with both herself and others.

though she always struggled with identity and self-esteem issues, these have been exacerbated by rey's failure to become a jedi. she has effectively shut down emotionally, putting up a front of confidence. almost nothing she says is meaningful or true.

despite this, rey inwardly still craves assurance. unfortunately, it's almost impossible to get her to open up. only when she's deliberately forced into it, one-on-one, is rey able to express any semblance of sincerity, and even then it's extremely difficult.

to summarize easily, in this au, rey is very similar to kylo ren in that she is also torn between light and dark. which path she chooses would be determined by which of her peers cares enough to support her journey down it; though she believes everyone has given up on her, just as she's done for herself.

does anyone even care?

( mains and significant others. )

Kylo Ren (@VengefulRule) -
Single-shipped.

what's wrong with you?

rey has let her hair grow. it's almost always a mess, only bothering with it in formal situations.

her appearance in general is given almost no thought. she wears all black, as instructed, though she does appreciate how the color makes her feel hidden.

much like how kylo obsesses over vader, rey idolizes grievous' legacy. it's a combination of feelings of solidarity in suffering and admiration for his cybernetics.

hux and poe both drive her wild, in a bad way. well - it's a love / hate relationship. mostly hate.

rey is covered in scars. the only one she acknowledges is the one she's forced to; the ugly pink line that runs down her face.

( following headcanons are nsfw / triggering. )

rey has never been with another person intimately, or even been kissed.

rey has masochistic tendencies. any sadism she displays is forced.

she has been known to hurt herself in various ways. bringing this up results in extreme anger and denial.

borderline personality disorder is something she struggles with, though obviously not by name. i suggest looking into it if you're so inclined.
